Each year the Journalism Department holds a fundraising event to benefit the yearbook, newspaper, broadcast, and Literary Magazine publications. The fundraising event is the traditional Miss OMHS Pageant.
This year’s pageant will be held on January 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Oak Mountain High School, with theme being a winter wonderland. The ninth, tenth and eleventh grade girls participating in the pageant will be judged on their choice of evening wear, appearance and beauty, personality projection, pose and modeling and overall appearance. The senior girls are required to go through an interview as well as the evening dress portion of the show. The interview will take place off stage and will be scored on self confidence, articulation and expression, use of grammar, appearance and personality. The interview will count as 50% of the senior girl’s overall score, while the remaining 50% is on the evening dress show. Along with crowning the OMHS Queen, from the senior class, and the OMHS Princesses, from the remaining grades, the contestants will also vote and choose a Miss Congeniality from the senior class.
Catie C., senior, says “I really enjoy getting dressed up all fancy and spending time with the other girls participating in the show. It’s a lot of work but worth it.” This will be Catie’s third time to partake in the Miss OMHS Pageant and she is looking forward to her last show as a senior.
Holly S., junior, was in the pageant last year and placed. She says, “It was nerve racking have to walk across the stage, but it was a lot of fun to be there will my friends and have my family in the audience cheering me on.”
Kristen M. is participating in the Miss OMHS Pageant for the first time her junior year. She says, “I’m excited to be able to dress up and compete in a friendly competition with my closest friends.”
If you are thinking about being in the pageant please attend the interest meeting on Thursday, November 29th in Mrs. Julie Hart’s room, located on journalism hall in room 223, during 6th period.
