Movies have been a part of the American culture from the acclaimed silent film to the modern day motion pictures since the beginning of the twentieth century. Even back then, movies brought in exceptional revenue, and there is no doubt that this last weekend’s box office openings were just as exceptional.

Released on March 21, 2015, Insurgent stole the spot as the most watched movie in theatres with a weekend gross of $52,263,680. This is a big deal considering that the next in line to Insurgent was the new version of Cinderella with only $34,967,659. While this is a lot of money, the gap between the two movies is extraordinary. Cinderella’s overall weekend gross was at a negative forty percent loss. Third in line was Run All Night with a weekend gross of $5,032,323. This data obviously shows that Insurgent controlled this weekend’s box office.
