Behind the Curtain

Abigail Grissom, Staff Writer

Thanks to the OMHS theater department, this school year has some exciting projects coming up. From fall to spring, they’ll be busy creating wonderful performances that they’ll show us. You have to give props to them, from the cast to the crew, all the way to Mrs. Strickland, our wonderful theater teacher, for their hard work.

This upcoming fall, the theater department will be presenting a showcase of works that’ll be performed at Trumbauer, a theater competition. On the 25th and 25th of October, actors and actresses will show off their musical performances, monologues, and even act out scenes from popular shows. In the lobby, other competition pieces, such as set designs, costume designs, and more will be showcased for viewing.

In the winter, the main event will take place. Beauty and the Beast will be performed January 10th through 12th; the entire department is buzzing with excitement. While there’s still a lot of work ahead, there’s no doubt that Beauty and the Beast will memorable. With gorgeous ball gowns and talking furniture, the cast will sing and dance their way through this tale as old as time.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be presented in the spring, March 13th through the 15th. Puppets will make the show truly come to life. These lifesize puppets will be created by Mrs. Strickland and the theater crew; this is a monumental task that will surely pay off.

There are so many opportunities to get involved with the theater department. From being in the spotlight to running the show backstage, cast and crew alike welcome new members to join the department. With so much to do, both crew and cast are needed to make this year the best it can be. For opportunities to join theater, talk to Mrs. Strickland in room 123.
