Oak Mountain High School is off to a great start to the 2016-2017 school year by adding not only new schedules but also new teachers. The new faculty members are adapting to Oak Mountain great. I have talked to a few of them and they expressed how they feel about the change so far. This year there are currently seven new members added to the faculty and staff. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to ask them a few in depth questions regarding their arrival. Here are their responses.

I first sat down with Mrs. Rosemary Maguire, who teaches French I, II, and III.
Where did you previously work?
“I came from Tuscaloosa CIty where I taught at Westlawn Middle School.”
What made you come to OMHS?
“I wanted to get back into teaching high school and to get back into teaching in the Birmingham area and also it is a good school, so it hit all the marks!”

I then spoke with Mr. Tommy Hayes, Chemistry and Earth and Space Science teacher.

“This is my first year teaching.”
How are you liking SOAR 60 so far?

“Foley High School.”

“Oak Mountain is one of the best known schools in the state of Alabama, and also some of the best people. Also, to be a part of and help build the Oak Mountain Football to win championships, along with any other sports I am a part of.”
I then got a few facts about Mrs. Amy Barnett, who teaches Special Education along with anything from math to english to life skills.
What subject did you previously teach?
“This is my first year teaching!!”
Why did you choose to come to Oak Mountain?
“I chose to come to OM due to the amazing feeling I felt when I interviewed here. OMHS has an amazing atmosphere like no other I have ever felt.”

We the students at Oak Mountain hope you all feel comfortable in our nest! Keep going strong teachers; it’s only the beginning of the school year which means you all have many more memorable times with us Eagles. Thank you again to all the teachers who made time to answer these questions. We wish you the best of luck for the rest of 2016 and 2017.
