On January 19th 2020, the WHO announced that there have been cases of “Coronavirus-related Pneumonia” in Wuhan, China. Since then, “Covid-19” has spread to every single country. As Covid-19 was spreading, the United States, along with many other countries, began going into lock down to prevent the virus from getting worse. The United States began lock down around March 2020, which closed down schools and other businesses. Since then the lock down has been lifted, but there are still strict guidelines that people need to follow, such as wearing a mask and not having large gatherings. As of today, there have been 90+ million cases and 1.9 million deaths due to Covid-19, and in the United States there have been more than 21 million cases and over 370,000 thousand deaths. And finally, in Alabama alone there have been 400,000 cases and over 5,000 deaths. A vaccine has been made for Covid-19, and it has been reported to be 90% effective. But with this new vaccine, a new variant of the Covid-19 virus has been discovered in the U.S and other countries. This new variant of Covid spreads more easily and is more severe than the original virus. But it is not all bad because this new variant is detectable by our current tests and is also treatable by medicines that are currently being used. With all this being said, hopefully in the near future we will be Covid-free.
