OMES Students and Teachers Participate in Mercedes Marathon

On February 15 and 16, students and teachers from Oak Mountain Elementary school ran in the Mercedes Marathon held in downtown Birmingham. This internationally known event raises money and awareness for Birmingham’s Bell Center, which provides early intervention services for children with special needs from all across Alabama. Since its first race 13 years ago, the Mercedes Marathon has raised over $4 million dollars.

100 students ran in the Kids Marathon on Saturday and 4 teacher relay teams raced in the Marathon on Sunday. Students and teachers start preparing in the fall and look forward to the event all year. According to first grade teacher Cammie Eanes all the training is worth it. This is her second year to run the relay with her family. “I have loved cheering each other on and working together to accomplish a goal”, she says. “I can’t wait to do it again next year!
