Elevate Your Summer With These Five Activities

Elevate Your Summer With These Five Activities

Reilly DeShazo, Staff Writer

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to enjoy off time with friends and family, and for some, live it up before starting a new chapter called college. Luckily, there are many things to enjoy in Birmingham during the approaching summer and here they are.

  1. Visit the Market at Pepper Place

Pepper Place offers the perfect opportunity to meet and explore local businesses and farmers in Birmingham. You can explore the outside tents or take a look around cooler inside facilities. Anywhere you go in the market, you are bound to meet nice people and explore different techniques and cultures!

  1. Visit Natural Bridge

If you like the outdoors, then Natural Bridge is for you! Enjoy the Alabama

summer heat in Winston County underneath the longest natural bridge east of the Rockies. Picnicking, nature trails, and gardens provide entertainment for the whole family!

  1. Enjoy a day out on Lake Martin

This beautiful lake located in Elmore, Coosa, and Tallapoosa county will provide

a great spot to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy activities like kayaking and swimming

this summer! Great for the whole family and restaurants are on the lake!

  1. Tour the Birmingham Zoo

Visiting the zoo is a great activity for the whole family to embark on. Learning

about different animals that we do not see everyday can provide a great

opportunity to educate ourselves and enjoy the wildlife!

  1. Hike King’s Chair

Oak Mountain State Park has several trails and activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, and relaxing, but King’s Chair by far has one of the best views. This 4.2 mile hike leads to a lookout over Shelby County and offers places to set up hammocks and relax.

As we lay down the textbooks in a few more weeks, let’s make sure memories are made in our free time by getting out of the house and exploring. Happy summer!
