Hero Run

Peyton Hassinger, Staff Writer

Coming up on October 30th, Wendy Hassinger and Caroll Cahill from Our Lady of the Valley School and Church are hosting the 2nd annual Hero Run. This Oak Mountain community event will take place at Heardmont Park beginning with a chip-timed 5k at 8:00 A.M. and 1-mile fun run at 8:45 A.M. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero (or villain!) and will be automatically entered in the costume contest. Runners have the opportunity to win family or individual costume awards, along with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placers for overall and age group!

Some faculty members of OLV have always wanted to host a running event and saw the 2020 lockdown as the perfect opportunity.  “We felt that the families in our community wanted to get together in a safe and active way. The morning was so much fun, and we had such a great turnout, that we decided to try to make it an annual event,” said Wendy Hassinger. This year, she and Co-Director Carol Cahill hope that more of the community will join in the festivities. Giving people something seasonal and fun to look forward to will no doubt relieve participants of seasonal stress and remind them of yearly holiday joy.
