The Oak Mountain basketball season has tipped off and the team is off to a good start, posting a 6-2 record. The Eagles have maintained this record in large part due to their lockdown team defense which has held teams to 40 points or less in four of their six wins.

Head Coach Chris Love spoke on the Eagles’ goals and the team so far.

“We are a work in progress. Seven seniors graduated last year so right now we are figuring out roles and how we need to play. We are 6-2 and our two losses came from good teams in Lee Montgomery and Thompson, so we feel really good but are definitely a work in progress. We are focused on getting better everyday and aren’t on state level yet, but hopefully if we continue to get better each day, we will be prepared in January for the area games and be able to peak in February. We don’t want to worried about long term yet.”

The Eagles have three games this week: Helena on Tuesday, Leeds on Thursday, and Vestavia on Friday.

“The goal is to make sure not to wear out the team in practice but get work done at the same time. We are going to have four straight weeks with three games a week so we will need to balance getting work done and not getting worn out,” Coach Love commented on preparing for three games in a span of four days.
