OM Biking Team Finishes Strong

The Oak Mountain High School Biking Team has competed in a total of five National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) races this season. The OMHS biking team is made up of middle through high schoolers, and is headed by an overall captain, a senior this year, named Matthew Harrison.

The biking team competed statewide at race five, at Tannehill State Historic Park, on May 7th, 2017. Each lap was 4.10 miles with 440 ft elevation gain. This track consists of a fast flowing single track with a few steep but short climbs.

The competitors go in waves, this time the girls went first, wave two was Junior Varsity, and wave three three was boys. The distances range from a single lap bing 4.10 miles up to four laps being 12.3 miles approximately.

Out of twenty six state teams the Oak Mountain biking team finished sixth out of all.
