OMHS Winter Guard Kicks Off

Halle T, Staff Writer

Last week OMHS had Winter Guard try-outs for this season. “It went very well,” sponsor Jennifer Brunner said, judging the try-outs. “I think we are going to have a strong competition season.”

Winter Guard is much like the Color Guard, the group that performs during the fall at football games, but Winter Guard has no band. It’s exclusively competing with dance, flag work, rifle, saber, etc. The Winter Guard will be participating with the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit. They plan on attending four to five competitions this season, competing with several other teams from the circuit.

Over the past few years the Color Guard phenomenon has grown enormously and has intensified the competitions. “Winter Guard will make us stronger for the fall. We’ll build on skills and get stronger,” Mrs. Brunner says.

Working with her teammates and performing is senior, Allie G.’s favorite part. “It’s nerve racking but a lot of fun,” she says. “It’s a lot of fun, can’t wait for this season!” sophomore, Jordan G. agrees.

Good luck to the Winter Guard this season!
